Freelance Whales are a catchy pop-indie group who dominated the free shows at SXSW this year. Their first album, Weathervanes is to be released on April 13th by Mom + Pop Records.
I would have to say I love this cd. If one took The Postal Service, combined it with Sufjan Stevens, added a splash of banjo — Freelance Whales would be born. I enjoy the easy-listening quality and I can’t wait for their next release to see if they can fine-tune their sound.
Maxence Cyrin is a French techno-buff who started covering trance hits on his piano in his teens. As he matured he started to add rock anthems and indie numbers to his repertoire. Make sure check out his cover of D.A.N.C.E and No Cars Go on his myspace. Maxence Cyrin – Where Is My Mind (The Pixies Piano Cover)
Icelandic band Sigur Rós has been one my most favored groups for years. The lead singer Jónsi is about to release his first solo album ‘Go’. Here it is. Full stream ahead.
LOST comes on tonight and is probably the best show on television since M*A*S*H. If you disagree than this post is just not for you. Here are some comedic vintage lost ads for your pleasure.

If you have ever had the privilege to ride in my car you know I have some tracks I seem to frequent. These tunes were usually played way too much during alternate periods of my life and all bring back different memories. I’m planning of sharing some of them periodically for your enjoyment.
This remix was the anthem of my senior summer. After witnessing The Hood Internet live at Bonnaroo I downloaded everything of theirs. More than a few of their mash-ups have crept their way onto my “Bitchin’ Remixes” playlist, but I couldn’t stop the Two Weeks of Hip Hop from making it to the top. Two Weeks Of Hip Hop (Dead Prez vs Grizzly Bear)
When I heard Phaseone’s edit of Animal Collective’s Daily Routine I seemed to repeatedly try to blow out my speakers, luckily I failed. 08 Daily Routine (Phaseone Remix)
When you have beats snatched from some of the greatest tracks around, and original lyrics that fit together like the last piece of a puzzle you get The Swelly Express. Xaphoon Jones, who is quickly rising to recent remix royalty and Chidera Anamege (AKA Chiddy Bang), who’s seamlessly smooth rhymes have created a collision of basement hip hop and hipster favorites that can’t help but be played on repeat.
This mixtape features acts like MGMT, Ratatat, Sufjan Stevens, Yelle, The Roots, and plenty more. Enjoy. The Swelly Express Tracklist:

Rafaël Rozendaal is a 30ish year old artist, descended from a Brazilian Presient, who uses the internet as his main medium. One of his most popular works being papertoilet.com. He creates sites and sells the domain name with a “contract stating the website must remain open to the public.” He has some of the most interesting websites out there, here are some of my favorites… http://www.allicandois.com (this site should have the menu bar for all of his works) http://www.jellotime.com/ http://www.wewillattack.com/ http://www.hotdoom.com/
He also runs onequestioninterview.com where he had interviewed the band YACHT, who are very popular for their song remixes. I think they may of had the best interview on the site.
Rafaël has a blog where you can check out some of his real-world art. He has some great works in galleries all over the world.
“My work is not “about” something. If it was, it would have a short explanation next to it, telling you what to think or feel when you watch it. I hope that my pieces become independent entities that are part of peoples lives and can be used or seen in any way. Like having a tree in your garden.” – Rafaël Rozendaal
This is the new single from our soul-infested friends upcoming album entitled Brothers. After I was drawn into The Black Keys from their funky rap experiment Blakroc, I can’t help but be on the edge of my seat for any new substance they can provide. Also, it can’t hurt this track was produced by Dangermouse.
Take her for a spin, 1 Tighten Up (Prod. By Dangermouse)
Yeah it isn’t sunday, but its alliteration. Remix picks brought to you by Jake Moon.
Passion Pit, yes our beloved Passion Pit has remixed the new hit from OK GO. It is entertaining. This Too Shall Pass (Passion Pit Remix)
Bassnectar, the ground-shaking hard hitter remixed some Pixies for us. Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix) (1)
Vitamin Records was formed in 1999 in Los Angeles “to offer fans exciting versions of their favorite songs performed in new musical contexts.” One of the biggest hits has been their String Quartet. I’ve been listening to their CD “Vitamin String Quartet Tribute to Moby” for over a year now and just recently learned of their other tributes(over 100 full-length CDs).
So far the only other CD I have bought is their record labeled “Per_Versions“. Released in June 2009 This CD compiles some of the biggest indie bands instead of tributing a whole CD to one Artist.
The artists featured in this album are some of my all time favorites and a few of Austin’s best.
1 Everyday Feels Like Sunday – of Montreal
2 Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl – Broken Social Scene
3 The Way We Get By – Spoon 03 – The Way We Get By (Originally Performed by Spoon)
4 Contour Lining – Vitamin String Quartet
5 Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) – The Decemberists
6 The Bleeding Heart Show – The New Pornographers
7 Hold On – Tom Waits
8 Stumblefoot Wheels – Vitamin String Quartet
9 Eraser – No Age
10 Sour Times – Portishead
11 Be-He – Vitamin String Quartet
12 Hoppípolla – Sigur Ros
13 The Greatest – Cat Power
14 Banshee Beat – Animal Collective 14 – Banshee Beat (Originally Performed By Animal Collective)
15 Your Hand In Mine – Explosions In The Sky
You can get the mp3 version of Per_Versions here for only nine bucks.
